John has been working in the field of medical devices for over 20 years. He is a recognised expert in his field of medical devices management. He has been instrumental in changing the device management processes of many NHS Trusts and has a proven track record in delivering safe recurrent cost saving improvements that also improve the NHSLA targets. His knowledge of medical devices includes general biomedical, X-ray and pathology. He believes in sharing best practice and is a respected professional in his field, speaking at many professional seminars.
John has been chairman of the medical devices website www.ebme.co.uk since 1999. He has spoken on radio and appeared on television representing the medical engineering viewpoint and acting as an expert in his field. John has had over 100 educational articles published. He has been published in the Open University Science review, Engineering Technology Journal (IET), plus various other newspapers, procurement and scientific publications and the EBME website www.ebme.co.uk. He is keen to share his knowledge and raise the profile of medical devices management.
Professor Nick Bosanquet
Professor of Health Policy, Imperial College, London

Nick Bosanquet is Professor of Health Policy, Imperial College. He is also consultant Director for the think tank Reform where he is recently developed a report on forecasts of NHS funding, "The NHS in 2010: Reform or Bust".
He is also a Special Advisor on public expenditure to the Commons Health Committee and a member of DH Advisory Group on New Cancer Strategy.
Dr Chris Hacking
Chris leads 3 teams at hospitals in Lincoln, Boston and Grantham. He is the trust lead for CQC Outcome 11. Prior to this role he worked for and then led the device evaluation service, CEDAR in Cardiff, specialising the evaluation of High Frequency Surgical Equipment and contributing to the development of the Part 2 international standard.
He gained his PhD at UMIST in 1991 with his thesis entitled 'Ultrasonic Imaging of Skin using Plastic Film Transducers'
His current scientific interest relates to clinical temperature measurement.
Krystyna Joyce
Krystyna Joyce is the Product Manager for Sleep and Diagnostics at ResMed, one of the leading companies in sleep and respiratory medicine.
She has over 7 years of experience working in the medical device market; over 4 at ResMed and three in a diabetes related company. She is a CIM qualified marketeer, with an original degree from Oxford University.
Paul Hampson – Invos Cerebral and Somatic Monitoring
Paul Hampson trained as a registered nurse at the University of Manchester in 1996. He worked clinically in a variety of roles for almost 10 years; including HDU, Surgical, Accident and Emergency and latterly as a Nurse Specialist in the community.
He became involved with medical devices in 2005 with a full time move to CME Mckinley. He has developed his career through a sales , clinical support and product specialism discipline over recent years for various companies and now works as a Brain Monitoring Specialist at Covidien.
Paul provides both sales and product support in the North and West of England on both the INVOS Cerebral Oximetry system and the BIS EEG depth of anaesthesia monitor.
Song Guohua
Song gained his masters degree in Engineering in 2002, and has since been working in telecom and medical devices industries. He has held positions in project management, technical sales, and marketing.
Nowadays he is the regional manager from Edan instruments Inc, a renowned medical device manufacturer focusing on monitors, obstetrical care, diagnostic ECG, and ultrasound.
Edan is located in Shenzhen, China.
Jonathan Hamer – BIS Depth of Anaesthesia Monitoring
Jonathan has worked for Covidien for just under 2 years in the role of Brain Monitoring Specialist for the South East focusing on the advanced parameter monitoring portfolio for Covidien UK.
Day to day activities are heavily focused on clinician interaction within a theatre based environment, looking at practical and clinical applications of BIS controlled titration in both volatile and TIVA /TCI anaesthetic delivery, covering a wide spectrum of patients and procedures.
John Byrne
John is currently a senior management consultant working for EBME Ltd.
He is responsible for advising NHS Trusts, Acute and Community Services, on the management of medical devices, in order to comply with the risk management standards of the National Health Service Litigation Authority (NHSLA) and the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
