Since Welch Allyn developed and launched the world’s first hand-held direct illuminating ophthalmoscope in 1915, the company has been a leader in developing cutting edge diagnostic equipment with many other firsts to their name:

• 1^st - to include halogen lamps in Otoscopes and Ophthalmoscopes
• 1^st -  to offer HPX lamps in Otoscopes and Ophthalmoscopes
• 1^st - to develop lithium ion batteries for use in Otoscopes and Ophthalmoscopes
